Assignment: Create an educational podcast.
Reflection: Following the creation of our digital image for this class, I wanted to use this opportunity to make an audio production that would give listeners some information and advice about using cloth diapers. In preparing for the audio recording, I thought it would be nice to frame it as though it were part of a series of audio podcasts called “Back to Basics.” The idea was that this episode would be one of several, each dealing with how to live life a little more simply. This framework gave me a good way to approach the assignment, and allowed me to think in a terms that were a little more broad than if it were a one-off recording with no connection to a larger product. I also wrote a script for the recording, because I wanted to make sure to cover important points and avoid rambling. I also wanted to keep information coming quick enough to capture listeners’ attention, and without a script I knew I would be liable to wander off on tangents or forget to include essential information. The editing was done in Apple’s GarageBand software, which made it easy to snip out parts I did not like or add sound effects too.
