Assignment: As the final product of our work in the Project Management class, we had to prepare a presentation summarizing everything related to the Project we had been working on throughout the course. While we were given the option of using VoiceThread, I chose to do my project in Final Cut Pro X because it offered greater flexibility with editing the overall presentation. The video contains slides that cover every element of the Project I worked on, which was a real Project that was part of my job at the time, and shows the many facets involved with managing this type of endeavor.
Reflection: Having never taken a course in Project Management before, I was surprised to learn all the various elements involved in taking on this type of task. Things like preparing a detailed budget, assessing the various stakeholders, managing risks, and having a plan for actually implementing the project were things I had not really considered before, but the more I learned about managing a project the more I realized how essential the role of Project Manager is in tying everything together. During the course of the class one student mentioned that managing a Project is a lot like managing a Classroom, and I think she was right. Keeping track of all the various component parts of a Project is similar to the planning, teaching, assessing, evaluating, and refining that educators do on a daily basis while they teach their students. Having gone through this class will benefit me not only in terms of helping me manage a large-scale Project, but any time I am involved in teaching as well.
